Important Church Updates from Pastor Dan
Updated March 29, 2021

Easter Services
Easter is fast approaching! We will be holding two services on April 4, Easter Sunday.  And there will be singing! Weather permitting, we will have a Sunrise Service at 6:30AM and a Combined Service at 10AM. Both will be outside in the back parking lot. We encourage you to bring your own chairs or picnic blankets. Should the weather not cooperate, we will have our regular services indoors.

Peeps Easter Scene Contest
The youth have had some fun and a great opportunity to get creative about Easter! They created Easter scenes with candy Peeps and will be competing for your vote. These fun projects will be on display outside the FAC before and after the 9:30AM service and then in the narthex for the 11AM service. Be sure to vote for your favorite this Sunday, March 28, and the winning display designers will get a prize!

Holy Humor Sunday – Share Your Humor and Brighten The Day
TUMC is resurrecting an old Easter custom begun by the early Greek Christians — “Bright Sunday” or “Holy Humor Sunday.” Holy Humor Sunday falls on the Sunday after Easter. For centuries, the week following Easter Sunday was observed as “days of joy and laughter.” Share your joy and laughter by recording your favorite joke on your smartphone and emailing it to jfforrock@gmail.com by Easter Sunday (April 4th.) We will also be set up to record your jokes in the church after each service in the classroom across from the church office Sunday, March 28th.

Resurrection Eggs
For Easter, Trinity’s youth have kindly made Resurrection Eggs to help families with small children explain Holy Week! They have one set per family, and ask that you sign up via this link to ensure everyone gets their own in a timely fashion: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094CADA82BA6FD0-resurrection. They’d also like to gently remind parents that there are small pieces in these sets, so they should be handled by the children with a loving adult present. Bekah will be available after each service on Sunday, March 28 for you to pick them up.

Celebrating All Our Graduates
TUMC wants to celebrate ALL of our graduates this year. If you are a graduate or you know someone who is graduating this year, please pass their name and contact information along to the church office at trinityumcsmithfield@mytrinity.org. We will be recording a virtual graduation individually with each graduate in April and May, giving each a moment to shine. The virtual graduation video will air on  graduation Sunday (date TBA).  Contact Jeff Orrock for more information or questions at jfforrock@gmail.com.

Church Office Mail Slot

We now have a secure means of using the church mail slot via a lockbox. While this makes that kind of drop-off more secure than before, we still suggest that you follow one of these methods of getting your donations in, including: online giving, leaving an envelope in the offering plate during service, mailing in the donation, or coming to drop it off during office hours. Thank you for your help as we strive to serve you better.

Easter Flowers
As we head into the Lenten season, it’s time for us to also start thinking about Easter! This year, we will be offering geraniums to have put in front of the altar for $9 a piece. To place your order, call or email the church office with your name, the amount you’d like to order, and if they are in honor or memory of someone. You can either mail in a check, drop it off at the church office, or place it in a marked envelope in an offering plate. Be sure to place your order by March 29!

Sunday Worship
We are excited to be back to IN PERSON worship starting this coming Sunday, February 7! PLEASE ADHERE TO ALL COVID-19 PROTOCOLS, including 6 feet of social distancing, wearing a mask at all times, and refraining from “bunching up” in groups after worship. If you are especially concerned about being in a crowd, consider attending our 8:30am worship service held in the sanctuary. It is our least attended service by far with plenty of room for distancing between households. We will continue to do our best to offer livestream on Facebook and our website at 11am for those who choose to remain safest at home. We look forward to worshipping with you as Pastor Dan continues his new series on the Lord’s Prayer!

Dementia Caregiver Support Group
If you are a family caregiver and caring for a loved one with dementia, we have a group for you! This is a new group for Smithfield/Western Tidewater area residents, sponsored by the Southeastern VA Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. It meets on the third Friday of the month from 2-3 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. Carrie Bruce and Carolyn Savinsky are co-facilitators. Email SmithfieldCaregiverGroup@gmail.com for further information. You must register to participate, and sign-in details for the meeting will be emailed to you.

Website Feedback
See an issue with our church website? Simply shoot an email or give the office a call! In our ongoing efforts to improve communication, we welcome your feedback about things we may miss while maintaining and updating our website. Your help in keeping this important outreach outlet current and functioning is vital. Thank you for your careful attention!
