A Reflection on the Brazil Mission

One mission trip that my son, Nick, and I went on was to Des Neves, Brazil in 1996. This was an economically depressed town with high crime, profound poverty, malnourished children, and Methodist church leadership such that many men did not attend church. The churches were predominately women, and women were mostly relegated to housework. Our mission was to work on a day care center. We prepped walls and ceilings and painted them with paint as thin as water, repaired electrical cables with exposed bare wires that could be touched by children and adults, installed kitchen and bathroom tiles and sinks, and repaired a roof. – Jim Goerger
